The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the Centre to find out whether the issues raised in a PIL filed against cricketer and Bharat Ratna awardee Sachin Tendulkar's alleged involvement in using the “fame” of the honour in “earning money by endorsing commercial products”.
The HC also directed the Centre to find out whether some newsitems had appeared in the last couple of days mentioning about the institution of such a petition or the present petition.
“If so the copy of such news-items be produced before the court,” the HC said while hearing the PIL of VK Naswa of Bhopal.
Naswa has sought the direction from the Centre to furnish copies of commercial modelling contracts which Tendulkar entered since November 16, 2013.
Naswah said Tendulkar should return the award on moral ground and if he fails to do so the central government should strip him of the honour.
Tendulkar recommends more than 12 brands, including Aviva Life Insurance, Boost (malt-based nutrition drink), MRF, Luminous and realtor Amit Enterprises.
He retired from all forms of cricket last November.
