Madhya Pradesh Congress strongly demanded “immediate” resignation of foreign minister Sushma Swaraj after controversy broke out over her recommending visa to former cricket administrator Lalit Modi for travel outside England.

State Congress chief Arun Yadav in a press conference said it is a very serious issue that foreign minister of our country was getting visa for a wanted criminal against whom more than 20 cases were registered and who had siphoned off crores of rupee.

He demanded immediate resignation of Sushma Swaraj from the post and said there could be no excuse for her wrongdoing whatever reason she invokes to justify her action.

Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Satyadev Katare also demanded resignation of the foreign minister saying how could she recommend visa to a person who is required by the enforcement directorate (ED) and income tax (I-T) department of her government.

“When Lalit Modi contacted her, did she ask him to come and surrender in India before she recommends her case for visit to Portugal to get his wife treated?” asked Katare, while talking to HT.
