He has ordered a probe into the incident by a civil surgeon. Hardly a month ago, over three dozen people had suffered eye infection and some had even lost vision in one eye during a botched cataract surgery in Barwani, about 155 km from Indore.

The sub-divisional magistrate said a complaint in this regard was submitted on Thursday by patient Shabnam’s husband Sajid, residents of Barwani on Thursday. The complaint was also addressed to district collector and chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The operation was conducted at a district women’s hospital on December 27 and a baby boy was born. Sajid said her wife was discharged the next day as both mother and baby responded well. However, Shabanam started complaining of swelling in the stomach and non-urination thereafter.
