A Madhya Pradesh court has directed the police to arrest the Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker from Tikamgarh along and his men within a week for allegedly thrashing a government official and not allowing him to perform his duty.

A report was lodged against MLA KK Shrivastava and his four accomplices for beating up chief executive officer (CEO) of Rithi janpad panchayat Udayraj Singh around eight months ago.

Later, Singh’s lawyer NK Shukla filed a petition in the chief judicial magistrate’s court charging the police with favouring the MLA and seeking immediate action against the accused.

Hearing the petition on Tuesday, chief judicial magistrate (CJM) of Tikamgarh Ramji Gupta also directed the police to arrest the MLA and and his men within a week and declare them absconders if they didn’t surrender within the given time.

The lawyer also pleaded before the court that the MLA was attending functions and moving around freely yet the police had not arrested him with obvious reasons.
