Nanhe Singh had seen his 14-year-old daughter last around 15 months back when the sprightly little girl had left for school. The Class 9 student at a village in Jabalpur had gone missing mysteriously ever since and the hapless father is still struggling to lodge a missing complaint with the local police.
Singh, a resident of the remote Jhunjh village in the tribal-dominated Kundam block of Jabalpur, told HT that his daughter went missing on October 7, 2014.
“We (Singh and his wife) work as agricultural farms as labourers in a neighbouring village. When we returned from work that day we found that our minor daughter, Chamna Bai, had not returned from school. We were told that she was last seen with a woman of our village,” Singh told HT.
Singh also went to his daughter’s school in the neighbouring village where teachers told him that the girl had not come to school that day.
Later Singh along with the village sarpanch approached the police to lodge a missing complaint. “Whenever I visited the local police station the cops tell me that they will call me after tracing my daughter. More than a year has passed like this,” the forlorn father said.

{{/usCountry}}On January 13, Jabalpur district panchayat member and ex-MLA, NL Dhurve, had raised the issue of the missing tribal girl at the district planning committee meet, but still FIR was not registered in the matter.
“I even made representation to the superintendent of police two days back for action in the matter,” he told HT.
When contacted, additional superintendent of police (South), Karthikeyan Krishnamurthy, only said: “I will look into the matter as to how and why FIR was not registered in the case.”
Jhunjh village comes under village panchayat Dadargawan. Jhunjh is located over 70 kilometres from Jabalpur.
