Security was beefed up throughout Madhya Pradesh after the terrorist attack on Pathankot Air Force Base on Saturday, with the state police putting all airports, railway stations and crowded spots on high alert, said MP deputy inspector general, intelligence, Makrand Deouskar.
“Intensive checking is being held in Gwalior. The Maharajpura area near Air Force Base is under strict surveillance of the security officials,” said Harinarayanchari Mishra, superintendent of police (SP), Gwalior.
Religious spots, including Ujjain, have also been also provided extra cover.
Meanwhile, Congress workers staged a demonstration in front of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC)’s office against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif for the terrorist attack in Pathankot. The workers also burned their effigies and Pakistan’s national flag.
Youth Congress state president Kunal Chaudhary demanded firm action from PM Modi against such attacks.
Cops search train for militants near Ujjain
Fearing a second terror assault in the lines of the Pathankot attack on Saturday morning, police searched the Jammu Tawi-Indore-Malwa express train near Ujjain after receiving inputs that armed militants associated with the attack are travelling in it. No suspect was found inside the train.
Ujjain superintendent of police Manohar Verma said, “The train was stopped at Pingleshwar railway station and searched thoroughly, but nothing objectionable was found. We have received information that some militant suspects associated with Pathankot attack are traveling in it with arms.”
