Chairman of Special Investigation Team (SIT) justice Chandresh Bhushan has convened a meeting with senior Special Task Force (STF) officials, including its chief Sudhir Sahi, to decide on the action to be initiated against some high-profile suspects, including a former chief minister, in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, sources said on Wednesday. The meeting has been scheduled for Saturday.

Sources said the SIT, in its recent status report to the Madhya Pradesh high court, has submitted names of 27 suspects, including a former chief minister, and apprised the court that the STF was going soft on these suspects notwithstanding the fact that their role was similar to other accused in the scam.

After the SIT's report, the high court had expressed concern over the STF's failure and sought an explanation from Sahi on the report.

Sources said that the SIT had raised question on the STF officials' soft peddling action on some of the suspects but STF officials sought more time each time on the ground that adequate evidence was not available against them.

Sources from SIT said Bhushan and Sahi, along with other members of SIT and some officials of STF, would sit together with papers to discuss the further course of action on the issue.

The STF has to inform the court on what it was doing to comply with the SIT's recommendations.
