11 years of Omkara: Deepak Dobriyal decided to be jobless for a year after the film

Omkara (2006) proved to be a turning point in Deepak Dobriyal’s career. After the film, the actor decided to take a breather and relax.

“I just didn’t want to work after Omkara. The film sent out a clear message that I could act and that was a big relief for me. There was a lot of pressure on me, my family and everyone close to me before Omkara. So after it happened, I just wanted to take a breather and relax, and I didn’t work for one complete year,” says Deepak.

He played the role of Rajan “Rajju” Tiwari, who is madly in love with Dolly (Kareena Kapoor) and would do anything to win her affection. Deepak owes a lot to Vishal Bharadwaj.

Deepak also feels that the film serves as a benchmark in content and storytelling. “Omkara proved that you can work with stars when the story is good. You don’t have to go for a typical masala, or an action film when you are working with a star. It created so much awareness, and so many educated people watched the film and loved it. The film had an impact on everyone’s mind, and that’s why people still talk about that film,” he says.
