Actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s second red carpet appearance at the 69th Cannes Film Festival made for fashion redemption. While her first look garnered a mixed reaction from fans and experts, she seems to have nailed it the second time. Sticking to her favourite, Lebanese designer Elie Saab, the 42-year-old picked a pale, blush pink gown from the label’s Fall 2014 couture collection.

For designer Rina Dhaka, the buttery soft hue made for a winner. “I always prefer seeing Aishwarya in such pale, dewy and soft colours. The nude hue is perfect. The heavy embroidery might have come off as pretty strong for a day time appearance, but she makes it work,” she says.

The actor’s gown featured tone-on-tone beaded embroidery and she offset the look with an oxblood lip and old-school Hollywood waves. Designer Samant Chauhan, too, gives a thumbs up to the look. “I really like this embellished gown, and that she picked from a nude palette which looks great on the red carpet. I am unsure about the dark lip but Aishwarya tends to make it work in her favour,” he says.
