Amitabh Bachchan and other celebs lend a helping hand to quake victims

As the world joins hand to help the survivors and victims of Nepal earthquake, Bollywood celebrities are not far behind. Amitabh Bachchan wrote a blog asking people to extend a helping hand, and Manisha Koirala, who is originally from Nepal, has asked ­everyone to ensure that they donate money to organisations that are genuine.

The Indian film industry stood in ­solidarity with the ­people of Nepal, when it was hit by a massive ­earthquake on April 25. From retweeting helpline ­numbers to giving ­personal shout-outs for ­different NGOs, Bollywood is helping in every way ­possible.

While veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan wrote a blog asking people to extend a helping hand, actor Manisha Koirala, who is originally from Nepal, has asked ­everyone to ensure that they donate money to organisations that are genuine.

Filmmaker Kunal Deshmukh, who was stuck in the ­earthquake, and actor Mugdha Godse, who lost some of her film crew members in the calamity, have also urged people to lend a helping hand. "I have sent clothes, ­medicines and tents for quake-hit people. My heart goes out to all those who lost their lives and their families," says Godse. Kunal Deshmukh, who was rescued from Nepal on Wednesday, says he is in touch with an NGO and will extend help.

New York-based Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung has launched a ­fundraiser. So far, he has managed to collect over $385,000 (Rs 2.44 crore), and has even secured support from Hollywood celebrity Kim Kardashian.
