Dharmendra: Everyone tries to make it big in the West; it never looked worth it to me

Actor Dharmendra talks about the growing fascination for Hollywood among young Bollywood actors and why working in the West never appealed to him.

A lot of Bollywood actors are trying to expand their acting career by working in Hollywood films, but veteran actor Dharmendra feels that working in a foreign land is not worth the struggle.

“Everybody tries to make it big in the West but it has never looked worth it to me. You are the best in your home and your homeland with your people. When you are in India, you are the most loved person. There is hardly a chance that you can get the same love from people anywhere else. If you get a chance and you get popular, then you get lost in that fame. Your career is not successful anywhere as it is when you live in your own country with your own people,” says Dharmendra.

In times when film and celebrity publicity, and PR machinery has become a norm, every celebrity has taken to social media in order to expand their reach. However, for the 81- year-old actor, celebrity status is not about being available for everyone and everywhere.
