Singer Yo Yo Honey Singh, who has been away from the music industry for a while now, has made a comeback of sorts by rehashing two songs originally composed by Punjabi singer Hans Raj Hans. The songs, Dil Chori Sada and Dil Tote Tote, have been composed for the upcoming Bollywood flick Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. And Yo Yo has got Hans Raj Hans’ appreciation.
“Recreation of old songs should happen only if they have proper tone and don’t have discordant note. I didn’t find any vulgarity in the songs. They have been composed up to my expectations. I think such music is the demand of today’s youngsters and Honey Singh has delivered it well. Instead of criticising, we should appreciate him and let the youth enjoy this music,” says Hans.
Talking about how Yo Yo came to him to seek his permission, he tells us, “He told me that he likes my songs and wants to recreate them. I first heard the lyrics, then its composition and allowed him to re-compose them.”
However, the singer is not in favour of rehashed versions that are made just for the heck of it. “I think already used work should not be carried again. Some people do it just for money and popularity. They must first come up with new ideas and then execute in a very different way,” he says. For instance, the 53 year-old wants to draw the attention of new-gen musicians to folk music. “With youngsters showing their interest in western music, folk music is declining. This music used to tell us about a place, its culture, people, and language. It is only up to the youngsters who can preserve this heritage,” he says.
