Sonam Kapoor ended last year on a happy note. She has just returned from a vacation in Maldives, and her last film, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), got a good response at the box office. Even though she is elated by the success, the 30-year-old says she never bothers about the number game.

“I don’t think about all that, and that’s why I make the kinds of film choices I make. But it’s nice to be appreciated, and it feels great when your film does well. You feel like your hard work has paid off. You make movies so that people can watch them. In fact, the purpose of doing any sort of creative work is to make it available to people. So, when that happens, it’s good,” says Sonam.

She also believes in doing a variety of roles, and not sticking to a particular mould. “Your new work shouldn’t remind the audience of the last work you did. It should be fresh. So, if I’m doing something, it has to be completely different from my previous film. Even with my next, my role is completely opposite to what I have done in the past. I don’t like to repeat myself, because then it’s not challenging enough, and gets a bit boring. I want to figure out the different aspects of what I can or cannot do,” she says.

In fact, Sonam, too, insists that at the end of the day, the content is the hero. “You understand that it’s not about only you. It’s about the content and the filmmaking too. If the film is good, and it connects with the viewers, it will do well. So, I don’t stress about such things. It’s all about believing in your product,” says the actor.
