While her role of Bholi Punjaban in Fukrey (2013) got her a lot of recognition, Richa Chadha does not want to take up similar roles. The actor says she is open to experimenting with characters. “I love the work that I’ve been getting, and I don’t really regret anything. I am open to playing anything that is different. But I don’t want to do Bholi Punjaban type roles where I am playing a gundi (goon). I don’t want to be typecast,” she says, adding, “So unless it is for a sequence of the same film, I don’t want to take up something similar.”

The actor, who has been seen in films such as Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013) and the recent critically-acclaimed film, Masaan, says that she is trying to balance her commercial potboilers with meaningful roles. “I am reading scripts at the moment. I love the work that I have done so far; it is a good balance of commercial films and fulfilling cinema. And that is the way I want to keep it,” she says.
While many actors feel that being public figures restricts their personal space, Richa is not complaining in this regard. “Firstly, not everyone recognises me. But I enjoy the shoots and the attention. Of course, there are times — during festivals for instance — when you don’t get your space, but that’s fine. I am not complaining,” she says.
