Farhan Akhtar has had his share of problems while collaborating with others — most prominently his infamous fallout with Rock On!! (2008) director, Abhishek Kapoor. But he assures that he has never meant ill for anyone. The filmmaker-actor-singer, who has moved on and now collaborated on an independent single — Mutant Macha — talks about the Kapoor case and his new associations.

Abhishek Kapoor has accused you of using the script of Rock On 2 without credit.
Since the matter is still in court, I don’t want to comment much on it. I am quite certain that they will realise what the truth is, when they go through all the evidence. It’s very unfortunate that it has come to this. It’s something that I’ve honestly been at, for t he last 15-16 years now. I have never in my life taken anyone for a ride, or taken anyone for granted. Nor do I have any intentions of doing so. My reputation is genuinely far more important than the work that I do. On some level, this will sort itself out; I am not concerned about it that much.

Do you think there is need to make independent music more popular in India, and more easily available to the masses?
I have always felt that there are some really good and talented music artists outside the film space. The fact is that film music is overbearing. Independent music is representative of the people there as opposed to film music, where the song is about a specific situation. On the contrary, independent musicians talk about their experiences and what they feel. And I’ve always wanted to bring out that kind of music.

Does that mean we may soon see you cut an album outside the film space?
Right now, I am not sure about an album. We are either creating singles, or I am going solo with other musicians. These days, an artist tends to focus on just one song, making it better and taking it from there.
