Film-makers and the Censor Board are known to have difference of opinions for as long as cinema has been made. However, actors tend to be less vocal about such issues.
Yet, after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave actor
’s latest release an A-certificate (unsuitable for anyone below 18 years of age), she has lashed out against the decision.
Reportedly, producer, and Rani’s husband, Aditya Chopra, tried to reason with the Censor Board, hoping to change their mind about the A-certificate — the first ever for a film by his banner — but to no avail.

An evidently irate Rani says, "In a country where six-year-old girls are being raped by 70-year-olds, and where young girls are getting gang-raped, I don’t see the need to give a film like this an A [certificate]."
The actor plays a cop in the film that’s about human trafficking. "It’s imperative to show all girls what the reality is, what the world has come to, and how they need to protect themselves," she adds.
The actor also rues the lack of a wider set of censor certifications in India. "My film has been given a 12-plus certificate in the UK. So, unfortunately, girls who are [aged] 12, 13 or 14, and should watch the film, will not get to do so, simply because we don’t have such certification here. We only have censorship to gauge whether a film is suitable for people over or under 18," she says.
Admitting that shooting for this film was a “physically and emotionally challenging” experience for her, the actor says that after learning Krav Maga for the role, her belief is that every girl should learn self-defence. She says, “They should be able to protect themselves from a tender age, so that they grow up to be confident.”

On a different note, Rani has been constantly quizzed about her recent wedding at all public appearances. Ask if she got tired of being bombarded with the same questions during promotional events as well, and she says, “Frankly, actors don’t have the right to get tired, because I don’t think that is taken very nicely (smiles). So I wouldn’t say that I am tired."
