Juhi Chawla: I kept doing happy films; now looking forward to a psychological thriller
With some females actors such as Divya Dutta, Richa Chadha making a mark with their negative characters, actor Juhi Chawla, too, feels she can do justice to such a character.
Actor Juhi Chawla has played various roles ranging from a love-struck college girl, a spoiled rich brat to a caring mother. However, after 25 years of a successful career, she is still up for new challenges and genres. Her latest interest: psychological thriller.
“I did Darr (1993), which received a great response. After that, I kept doing happy genres. I am looking forward to doing my next project, which is a psychological thriller. I think that this particular genre if done well, has a lot of scope in India,” says Juhi, whose upcoming film will be directed by filmmaker Niddhish Puuzhakkal.
The actor further says, “We have an example of a handful of films which have made an impact on the mind of the audience when it comes to a well made psychological thriller, and I hope that with more films, such as what I am doing now, the spectrum widens.”
The only time Juhi came close to a dark genre was her negative role in the film Gulaab Gang, but it did not help her get more negative characters. “I thought that I would be flooded with wonderfully villainous roles after the movie but strangely nobody came forward and I have gone back to playing the nice, sunshine person. I don’t know what happened.....didn’t people see the brilliance in my character?” she shares.
