Naseeruddin Shah on nepotism debate: It’s unfair to accuse only the film industry

Actor Naseeruddin Shah believes there’s nothing wrong with parents helping children with their career; says nepotism exists in other industries as well.

The subject of nepotism clearly won’t die out anytime soon. This time, actor Naseeruddin Shah has shared his thoughts on the topic and he certainly doesn’t agree that it pertains only to Bollywood. The 68-year-old actor feels that supporting their kids is what any parent would do, and that singling out people from the entertainment industry is not justified.

“I don’t understand why only the film industry has been accused of this. People in other industries do it as well. You don’t see people creating a major debate when businessmen put their kids in charge of their business. Or you don’t say anything to politicians who help their kids get into politics?,” he asks.

Nepotism debate was sparked off by actor Kangana Ranaut, who accused filmmaker Karan Johar of working with only star kids. Since then, film industry has been divided on the topic and many have slammed filmmakers for being biased towards actors hailing from film families.

“Isn’t that a very natural thing to do? Which parent wouldn’t want to help their own kid get a better way than they had in the industry? If one knows how things are in the industry, and your children want to be part of the same industry, it’s only natural that you would want them to not repeat the same mistakes,” adds the actor.
