The first song of Padmavati, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, is all set to be unveiled on Wednesday and the makers of the film have shared a new picture from the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film.
Elaborating on how challenging the dance form was, Deepika said, “I started preparing for this film and character several months before we started filming. But it was for the Ghoomar song [sequence] that I walked onto the set as Padmavati for the first time.”
Ghoomar is a traditional dance form performed by princesses and queens of Rajasthan and its moves spell grace and elegance. It involves twirling in circles and coordinated hand movements and foot work. Ghoomar is also performed by new brides when they are welcomed into their marital homes.
The song has been composed by Bhansali and sung by Shreya Ghoshal.
A source from the team told Hindustan Times, “Deepika spent hours training under the guidance of Jyothi D Tommaar, assistant director and trustee of Gangaur Ghoomar Dance Academy. The performance has been choreographed by Kruti Mahesh Midya.”
“The shooting of the film began with this song, and I’ll never forget that day. I remember approaching my mark for the first shot. It was almost as if Padmavati’s soul had entered my body. I could feel her presence; and, in fact, I still do. It’s one of those rare moments in an actor’s life where it’s going to take a very long time before it actually leaves the system,” Deepika added.
Deepika teams up with Bhansali for the third time, after successful films Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013) and Bajirao Mastani (2015).
Produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Bhansali Productions, Padmavati will release worldwide on December 1.
