Deepika Padukone believes in forgiving and forgetting. That is why, despite a bitter break-up with ex-steady Ranbir Kapoor, she’s agreed to pair up with him in Karan Johar’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. The film will be directed by Ayan Mukherjee of Wake Up Sid (2009) fame.
Says the actor, “I don’t look back on the past. I just pick up my life and move on. It’s been a couple of years since Ranbir and I parted and I don’t even think about it anymore. Everyone has their own way of dealing with break-ups. This is my way, but I’m not a counsellor to tell others what they should do in a similar situation.”
Deepika and Ranbir dated for over a year, and during that time, they starred together in Bachna Ae Haseeno (BAH, 2008).
They split in 2009. Since then, she has been dating Sidhartha Mallya while Ranbir has been linked with a number of actors including Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, Angela Jonsson and his Rockstar co-star Nargis Fakhri.
Recently, the duo was seen happily chatting at a special screening of Aamir Khan’s Delhi Belly. Deepika is all smiles as she says, “Ranbir is an extremely talented actor. Technically, we have only done half a film together since I came in only halfway through BAH. We were both keen to do another one, but till Ayan’s film came along, we had not come across the right script. There are no issues anymore, we are good friends.”

The Tissot brand ambassador points out that if she has a problem with someone, she can’t pretend to fake it. “Which is why today, when I say that there’s no issue with Ranbir, I mean it. We are both grown-ups and can be mature about a relationship that didn’t work out. It’s the media that makes it into an issue.”
All’s well
Deepika and Ranbir were going steady in 2008. There was talk of marriage too. She even had his initials tattooed on the nape of her neck, which she continues to sport. Deepika accused him of cheating on her, only to retract her statement later. Later, on Karan Johar’s chat show, she took a dig at him, saying she’d gift him a box of condoms. Ranbir’s father, Rishi Kapoor reacted to this angrily, saying that no one from his family would work with Deepika or Karan again. Today, Rishi is acting in two of Karan’s productions - Agneepath and Student of The Year and Ranbir’s film with Ayan Mukherjee is also produced by him.
