Ranbir Kapoor sat down with the comedy group All India Bakchod to promote his new film, Jagga Jasoos, in a two-part interview that was uploaded on AIB’s YouTube page on Tuesday. Before asking him about his film, hosts Tanmay Bhat, Gursimran Khamba, Rohan Joshi and Ashish Shakya, asked him about the most pressing issue in Bollywood today: Nepotism.
“Our guest today comes from the family of Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor,” said Tanmay, introducing Ranbir. “My question to you Ranbir is do you believe nepotism exists in Bollywood?”
“I am a ‘disarming’ product of it,” laughed Ranbir, pointing to the slogan on his shirt, which read ‘disarming’.
“Of course it exists. I’m sitting here next to you guys (because of it). I have a simple take on nepotism: I believe that my great-grandfather worked hard to give his children a platform, and so on and so forth. I became an actor because of my family, and because I got the opportunity, and the thing is you don’t really get credit for your success because everyone just looks down upon your success,” he said.

Ranbir’s comments come days after filmmaker Karan Johar and actors Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan stirred up a storm after declaring ‘Nepotism rocks!’ at the 2017 IIFA Awards in New York. Their comments were widely criticised, especially since they seemed to have been made at the expense of Kangana Ranaut, who called out the industry’s nepotistic ways - and especially Johar’s - in an appearance on his talk show Koffee With Karan.
