Sharman didn’t give in to temptation: Prem Chopra

Chopra admits to having been “apprehensive” of Sharman’s selective approach to films. He says, “I had advised him to keep taking the non-solo projects that were offered, but he stuck to his guns. I am glad his conviction has paid off and that he did the lead role with the right movie (Ferrari Ki Sawaari). Both Prerana, my daughter, and I are happy.”

The veteran actor calls it a “big jump” in Sharman’s career. “Though Sharman proved his mettle as an actor in Rang De Basanti (2006) and 3 Idiots (2009), and was offered many films for good money, he chose to wait and do selective work. He didn’t give in to temptation.”

Chopra reasons that his own approach towards cinema came from his personal experience in the industry. He says, “When I came to Mumbai, I knew no one. I started as a lead actor, but when those films didn’t do well, I moved on to playing the villain, which was more successful.
