Sumeet Vyas: I am itching to play a negative role on-screen

Actor Sumeet Vyas says he wants to change the general perception that he can play only comic characters.

Actor Sumeet Vyas became an overnight sensation through web series Permanent Roommates, in which he played the role of Mikesh Chaudhary. The actor says the show has changed his life, but it seems people can’t believe that he can go beyond comedy. Sumeet says he wants to break that image and explore other kind of roles, hence, he wants to play a negative character now.

“There is no specific role that interests me. I enjoy playing all kinds of characters. But after Permanent Roommates, I guess I have been seen as an actor who is funny. I want to change that perception. The kind of work that I have done prior to the web series proves the fact that I can play different roles. Those who have seen me in Chokher Bali (stories by Rabindranath Tagore) would know what I mean,” says the actor, who has been part of films such as Aarakshan (2011), English Vinglish (2012) and Aurangzeb (2013).

Keen on playing a negative character soon, the actor says, “I am itching to play a negative role on-screen. It would be interesting to do something that I have not done before. To break the notion around me, I decided to do Ribbon with Kalki Koechlin. This is documentary filmmaker Rakhee Sandilya’s first feature film, which isn’t funny at all. Ribbon is a very serious film. When people will watch it they will understand that this man (meaning him) can be sad too.”
