Akshara Haasan, who is making her Bollywood debut in R Balki’s Shamitabh — alongside veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan and National Award-winner Dhanush — likes being unconventional in her real life. This is what impressed Balki, who decided to keep her look in the film quite similar to her personal style.

“The first time I met Akshara was outside an editing studio. The look I saw her in inspired the look of the character when I wrote the script. When we cast her, my first brief to her was to go back to the look I first saw her in... minus the blue hair,” says Balki.

The actor went through 12 look tests before locking in on the pixie cut and the all-black attire look that she will be sporting in the film.

Akshara says, “A lot of people had reservations about me chopping my hair off, and sporting a pixie cut. They also do not associate black with something an actor should wear on screen. However, I wanted the look to be spunky and different. I do not believe in stereotypes.”

Shamitabh is scheduled to release on February 6.
