Yamla Pagla Deewana is on to its third iteration and the love that Bollywood has for Dharmendra is there for all to see. For a special song in Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se called Rafta Rafta, Dharmendra has been joined by Salman Khan, Rekha, Shatrughan Sinha and daughter Sonakshi. It should be a celebration of Bollywood where its past and present come together and dance to some of their biggest hits.
What we get instead is a mish-mash of their famous dialogues and songs, a lot of north European back-up dancers and a general sense of regret over what could have been. Dharmendra and Salman Khan dance to Rafta Rafta, Dharmendra’s song from Kahani Kismet Ki while Rekha performs to her own songs. There is a Khamosh moment too, courtesy Shatrughan Sinha.
Meanwhile, Dharmendra said in an interview that he is excited to see how audience reacts to some of the cameos in the film. “Shatru and I have a good chemistry. We were in Dost and several other films. Timing is the key in comedy. I am hopeful people will enjoy it,” he told PTI.
The Deols - Dharmendra and sons, Sunny and Bobby - came together on screen for the first time in 2006 with the family drama Apne. They followed it up with the comedy, Yamla Pagla Deewana in 2011, which was a huge hit, but its sequel did not do well at the box office. Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se releases on August 31.
