Uber is looking to be a part of your wedding essentials.
The American ride-sharing recently launched its new service -- Uber Wedding -- in the National Capital Region, to reduce transportation hassles that families face during the event.
Thanks to its diverse culture, weddings are one of the most-frequent affairs in the country. Delhi, for example, alone witnesses around 25,000 weddings a day during the marriage season.
Uber Wedding service allows users to buy coupons, or promo codes, for friends and families ahead of the wedding. Cabs will also be available on-demand.
The company has partnered with WedMeGood, the Indian wedding planning website, from where the promo codes (in various denominations) can be bought, and further passed on to friends and family members, who can use it without bothering about cash or digital payment.
What’s more, there are also a number of other initiatives to make your D Day special, like a special shopping trip for the bride and her friends or a short trip for the couple.
“It will be effective for the next four months, as we don’t want people to go through the tedious process of figuring out transport during weddings,” said Prabhjeet Singh, head of strategy, Uber India.

{{/usCountry}}So, you can buy 100 promo codes of R400 each, or other denominations, and distribute them among friends. The process is simple – once you enquire, someone from WedMeGood will call and get an estimate of your requirements – days and the number of people – and suggest denominations of promo codes.
Since its launch last Sunday, Uber has already received 200 bookings. The company plans to take the feature pan-India very soon.
The company, as a part of Uber Events, is looking at more partnerships like Uber Wedding. “We will bring a lot more of these services. We are evaluating a lot more cases,” Singh said.
Uber already has Uber Business for its corporate clients. It will also have kiosks at large events for people who don’t have the app installed, so that they can take an Uber from the location itself.
