Sensex down by 16 points in opening trade

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex opened marginally lower by a little over 16 points today amid a mixed trend in the Asian region.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex opened marginally lower by a little over 16 points on Wednesday amid a mixed trend in the Asian region.

The 30-share BSE index, which rose by 472.93 points in the previous session, eased by 16.40, or 0.10%, to 16,507.63 in the first five minutes of trade on Wednesday.

In a similar fashion, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index shed 6.50 points, or 0.13%, to 4,964.75, with stocks of realty, auto and metal sectors trading in the red.

Brokers said investors were seen booking profits at existing higher levels following the upswing in the market's fortunes yesterday.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was down by 1.11%, while Japan's Nikkei index was trading 0.49% higher in early trade today.
