Sensex down by 57 points on selling

Erasing early gains, the Bombay Stock Exchange Benchmark Sensex fell by over 57 points in late morning trade on Wednesday on profit-booking by speculators at higher levels.

Erasing early gains, the Bombay Stock Exchange Benchmark Sensex fell by over 57 points in late morning trade on Wednesday on profit-booking by speculators at higher levels.

The 30-share index moved down by 57.18 points to 17,532.99 points at 1115 hrs. The barometer had opened higher by 110 points.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also lost 21.25 points at 5,241.20 points.

Brokers said profit booking in oil and gas, metals, IT and banking stocks pulled the Sensex down.
