The Indian automobile industry has registered its best-ever July wholesale performance in the domestic market this year. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has revealed that passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers have recorded double-digit growth in July 2026.
Passenger vehicles registered 34.3% year-on-year (YoY) wholesale growth in the Indian domestic market with 457,810 units, as compared to 340,772 units recorded in the same month a year ago. Two-wheelers clocked 19,23,483 units in the domestic market last month, marking a 2.6% YoY growth over 15,69,120 units recorded in the corresponding month a year ago.
In the two-wheeler segment, scooters outpaced motorcycles by clocking 23.7% YoY growth, as compared to motorcycles' 20.7% YoY growth. Scooters sold 798,190 units in the domestic market last month, as compared to 645,022 units registered in July 2025. On the other hand, motorcycles sold 10,74,796 units in the Indian market last month, up from 890,107 units sold in July 2025.
The three-wheeler segment also clocked 92,560 units last month, marking a 33.4% YoY growth over 69,403 units sold in the same month last year.
The Indian auto industry is expecting this positive sales momentum to continue over the next few months as well, fuelled by festive demand, the recovering monsoon rainfall, rising consumer queries, as well as the easy finance options and tailwinds of the GST rate cut announced last year.

{{/usCountry}}Commenting on the July 2026 performance, Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said India’s auto industry delivered its strongest-ever July sales, with robust double-digit growth across passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers. "Passenger vehicle sales rose 34.3% to 4.58 lakh units, three-wheeler sales grew 33.4% to 0.93 lakh units, and two-wheeler sales increased 22.6% to 19.23 lakh units compared with July 2025. This positive momentum, sustained over several months, has continued as the industry enters the festive season with expectations of strong consumer sentiment,” he added.
