Tata Motors has hit an important landmark in India’s EV story, as the Nexon EV has crossed the 1 lakh sales mark since it was first introduced. The achievement highlights how the Nexon EV has moved beyond being an early adopter product to become a truly mainstream electric car, playing a major role in pushing EV acceptance across the country.
When the Nexon EV was launched in 2020, the Indian EV space was still at a very early stage. Electric cars were largely seen as niche options, often criticised for limited real-world range, higher prices compared to petrol and diesel cars, and the lack of a reliable charging network. Tata Motors addressed these concerns head on by offering a usable driving range, sensible pricing, and strong warranty backing, which helped ease hesitation among buyers and build trust in electric mobility.

Since then, the Nexon EV has steadily evolved. The first version came with a claimed range of around 230 km, while the latest iterations now offer up to 375 km on the C75 cycle. Warranty coverage has also improved significantly, moving from an eight-year or 1.6 lakh km battery warranty to lifetime battery coverage on newer versions. Along with the expansion of charging infrastructure, these updates have helped sales grow sharply, climbing from roughly 300 units a month in the early days to close to 3,000 units a month today.

The brand has expanded its EV sales and service footprint to more than 1,200 outlets across over 1,000 cities and towns, supported by a network of over 5,000 trained EV technicians. Charging access has improved through a mix of home chargers, community chargers, verified public charging points, and high-speed mega charging hubs, making EV ownership far more convenient than before.
According to the company, Tata’s electric vehicles have together covered close to 12 billion kilometres so far, resulting in a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. Within this growing EV portfolio, the Nexon EV remains the biggest contributor, with over 1 lakh units sold since launch, firmly establishing it as the backbone of Tata’s electric passenger vehicle lineup.
What’s next for Tata Motors EVs
Looking ahead, Tata Motors has outlined plans to introduce five new electric vehicles by the end of the decade. This roadmap includes the Sierra EV, an updated Punch EV, and the Avinya. Both the Sierra EV and Punch EV are scheduled for launch in calendar year 2026, while the Avinya is expected to arrive by the end of the same year. With these additions, Tata Motors aims to further strengthen its position in India’s rapidly evolving electric mobility space.
