Tesla entered the Indian market in July 2025 with a single product: the Tesla Model Y. Unlike several other global carmakers that assemble vehicles locally, Tesla chose the fully imported route for its India debut. That decision immediately placed the Model Y in a high tax bracket, with import duties crossing 100 per cent and pushing prices well beyond what most buyers associate with the brand internationally.
In Delhi, the Model Y currently carries an ex-showroom price of ₹59.89 lakh for the rear-wheel-drive standard range variant. The long-range rear-wheel-drive version is priced at ₹67.89 lakh. Unsurprisingly, that pricing has had a direct impact on demand. For the calendar year 2025, Tesla retailed just 225 units in India.

Discounts, but without a public announcement
This move follows a Bloomberg report from a few weeks ago, which claimed that Tesla was offering discounts of up to ₹2 lakh on select Model Y variants. These price reductions were not announced publicly and were instead communicated during customer interactions and test drives. Tesla has not issued any formal statement confirming these discounts.
What you get with the Model Y in India
As of now, the Model Y is offered in India in two configurations. The rear-wheel-drive variant is rated for a WLTP-certified range of 500 km. It has a top speed of 201 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The long-range rear-wheel-drive version extends the WLTP range to 661 km, while retaining the same top speed. Its 0 to 100 km/h sprint time is slightly quicker, at 5.6 seconds.
