The Punjab and Haryana high court has issued a notice to the director public instructions (DPI), Punjab, and two employees in an alleged bribery case.

The vacation bench of justice RK Jain issued the notice on an application filed in an ongoing case by Navdeep Kaur, who has alleged that two employees of the DPI office (secondary education) demanded bribe to get her an appointment letter issued for a lecturer’s job.

Sukhwinder Singh and legal assistant Sunil of the DPI office contacted the petitioner in New Delhi and asked her to sort out the case so that the appointment letter as lecturer (English) could be issued to her at the earliest, the petitioner told the court on Wednesday. The petitioner was contacted in the context of a case wherein she has approached the court for seeking issuance of directions to the government to issue her the appointment letter for the post.

Her husband recorded the conversation with Sukhwinder and Sunil on the mobile phone. During the conversation, they purportedly admitted the genuineness of the petitioner’s case but stated that they be paid Rs 3-4 lakh “as the file has to travel to so many levels”, the court was told on Wednesday by the petitioner. The latter also produced the recording before the court.
