The second edition of Kashmir Premier League (KPL) cricket tournament was today inaugurated here.
The tournament, organised jointly by Jammu and Kashmir Youth Services and sports department and the Army, was inaugurated by state finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather.
"It is a grand initiative to exploit the sports talent of the budding Kashmiri youth," Rather said.
State sports minister RS Chib, the outgoing General Officer Commanding of Srinagar-based 15 Corps lt gen SA Hasnain and the designate commander of the Corps lt gen Om Prakash were also present at the inaugural function held at DPS ground at Athwajan on the outskirts of the city.
The first match of the tournament, which was scheduled for today, was cancelled due to wet ground, a defence spokesman said.
Fourteen teams from across the Kashmir valley will take part in the second edition of the KPL.
Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag and Budgam districts have fielded two teams each while as Kupwara, Bandipora, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian and Ganderbal have fielded one team each, the spokesman said.
The teams would play 50 matches over a span of 41 days and the final of the tournament would be held next month.

{{/usCountry}}The winner of the tournament will get Rs five lakh while the runners-up will pocket Rs three lakh. The team which finishes third place will bag Rs two lakh.
