More women educators will emerge in 15 years, says PU V-C

National conference 'Women Empowerment: An Index Of Human Development' started at University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University (PU) on Friday.

Member of Law Commission of India, Mool Chand Sharma inaugurated the two-day conference.

In his presidential address, PU vice-chancellor, Arun Kumar Grover emphasised empowerment of women in education. He pointed out that in PU, women had surpassed men in PhD in the past few years and in 15 years, more women educators would be seen in higher education.

In the key-note address, Sharma said a change had to be brought in the complex web of economic policy, politics, culture and sociology to develop women as human capital. As much as 27% gross domestic product (GDP) was lost in the country as women were not given equal opportunity to work.

Sharma congratulated UILS for training students in various aspects of the legal profession from client counselling to moots to national conferences.

Abstracts, which were selected for the conference, were compiled in the form of a souvenir book and released by the distinguished guests. Over 11 sessions, 97 research papers will be presented during the event. The morning sessions emphasised on the conceptual contours of discrimination, violence and harassment against women.
