"If there is any such case, bring it to our notice and we will take action," Badal, who holds the home portfolio, assured Leader of the Opposition in Punjab assembly, Sunil Jakhar, who raised the issue of alleged false cases against Congress workers in the state on Tuesday.

Jakhar raised the issue after he hailed the election of SAD MLA Charanjit Singh Atwal as speaker and BJP MLA Dinesh Singh as deputy speaker.

Reacting to the newly-elected speaker's appeal to the Opposition to maintain the dignity of the House and not to resort to frequent walkouts, Jakhar said he would also expect good behaviour from the treasury benches.

He then took up the issue of false cases against Congress workers repeatedly raised by Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh and drew the attention of the House to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal's recent assurance that the government would take action if any such cases were brought to its notice.

Capt Amarinder Singh and former leader of opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal were not present in the assembly on Tuesday.
