Six faculty members of Chandigarh Region Innovation of Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC) have been selected as members of the National Academy of Sciences (NASI).
A total of 51 new members have been selected, of which three are from Panjab University (PU) and three are from other CRIKC institutions.
The eligibility criteria to become a member includes a high academic qualifications in any discipline of science and technology, active involvement in science and technology and evidence of high quality of research publications in peer reviewed national and international journals in addition to exceptional ability as a teacher or involvement in science promotion.
Prof Sanjay Chhibber from the department of microbiology, Sangeeta Pilkhwal Sah from University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Tankeshwar Kumar from the department of physics are the three new NASI members from PU. Rajesh Nair from IIT-Ropar, Jitender Kumar from Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), SAS Nagar, and Surinder Singh Rana from PGIMER are the three other new NASI members from CRIKC institutions.
The existing NASI members include PU vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover; former PU V-C Ram Prakash Bambah; former PU V-C and V-C of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar (Central) University, Lucknow, Prof RC Sobti; INSA senior scientist and professor emeritus at department of physics KN Pathak; PU dean university instructions (DUI) Prof AK Bhandari; former PU DUI and vice-chancellor of Central University of Punjab Prof RK Kohli; professor of department of mathematics Madhu Raka.
Former professor of botany Surinder Pal Khullar; botany department professor and chairman SS Kumar; former professor of mathematics N Sankaran; former professor of physics KK Srivastava; professor of department of chemistry and Centre for Advanced Studies Kuldip K Bhasin; professor emeritus of department of chemistry Dip Singh Gill; professor emeritus Satinder Vir Kessar; INSA senior scientist and CAS in mathematics Rajinder Jeet Hans Gill; department of chemistry Prof Suraj Prakash Narula; Centre for Advanced Study in mathematics Prof Anant Ramchandra Rajwade; professor and emeritus scientist (CSIR) Prof Parma Nand Trehan and former professor of zoology Prof Satendra Khera are also members of NASI.
