With this, city residents will be able to register their complaints pertaining to stray dogs, cattle, sanitation, roads, horticulture, or any other civic problem. The number will be available from 8am to 8pm on all working weekdays.

MC joint commissioner Rajeev Gupta said, “Consumers can call the toll-free number, after which the operator will punch the complaint with the system, which will generate a complaint number. This number will be sent to the complainant’s mobile number as well as to the officer concerned simultaneously.”

Three years ago, MC had initiated a process to address problems of residents through social networking website Facebook. However, owing to shortage of staff, the page had to be shut down. MC’s complaint centre has also been gathering dust for six months now because of the same reason - shortage of staff.

Nominated councillor Surinder Bahga said, “The need of the hour is an overhaul of the entire system. More sincerity is required to tackle grievances of the common man. We hope that the toll-free number will survive for long.”
