As many as 145 employees were tested at the camp on Wednesday. Of the 125 drivers, 76 reported problems in seeing nearby objects, while 25 faced problems in seeing distant objects.

The CTU employs 800 drivers.

Shockingly, 24 drivers using spectacles were found to have been using wrong glasses. The doctor at the camp asked them to change their glasses.

Dr Gurpreet Kaur, Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Charitable Eye Hospital, Sohana, who conducted the tests, said, “Out of 145 employees tested on Wednesday, only 20 were found to have normal vision.”

“The majority of the drivers need to get their vision checked,” she added.

Inspector (traffic) Narinder Patial said that the free eye testing camp was especially organised for the CTU drivers and it was learnt that many of them have problems in their eyes.

SSP (traffic) Maneesh Chaudhary said that the figures merited serious attention and the data from the camp would be shared with the CTU. “The CTU must change the drivers detected with problems in eyesight,” Chaudhary added. As many as 24 major accidents involving CTU buses have been reported in past three years in which 11 people were killed and 15 injured. These buses were also involved in 50 minor accidents.
