A 24-year-old student of IIT Mandi was found dead inside a rented accommodation in Mandi’s Kataula, police said on Wednesday.

Police officials said that the Kamand police post received the information that an IIT Mandi student living in a rented accommodation in Kataula was not opening the door to his room on Tuesday, following which a police team reached the spot and conducted an inquiry.
“The room was found locked from the inside. After the door was opened, the 24-year-old student, who is a resident of Dalhousie in Chamba district, was found dead inside,” Mandi police said in a statement.
Police said that no suicide note or suspicious object was found at the spot. “Necessary legal proceedings are being carried out under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The deceased’s post-mortem examination was conducted at Zonal Hospital, Mandi, on Wednesday, following which the body was handed over to the family for the last rites. Further investigation into the matter is underway,” police said.
