The Moga district police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered 4.5 kg of heroin from his possession, officials said.
In a press note issued on Monday, senior superintendent of police Sartaj Singh Chahal said Prem Masih, 25, a resident of Hashampura village under Ajnala police station in Amritsar district, was arrested on August 13.
He said that following specific information about the movement of a suspected drug trafficker, the crime investigation agency (CIA) tracked and nabbed Masih near Badhni Kalan.
The police team seized 4.50 kg of narcotics from his possession, and a case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Badhani Kalan police station, the SSP added. Investigators said an initial probe suggested the accused has no criminal background.
