A city-based taxi driver ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his house at Preet Nagar at Tajpur road after being allegedly cheated by his business partner.

The division number seven police booked the victim’s accused for abetment to suicide on Wednesday after recording the statement of the deceased’s wife.
The complainant said her husband had bought a taxi in partnership with the accused. The duo, she said, had availed a loan from the bank to purchase the taxi. Her husband used to hand over money to his partner every month to pay the installations to the bank against the loan. Instead of paying the instalments, however, the accused allegedly spent it on himself. Her husband came to know about it when he received a notice from the bank for non-payment of loan.
When the deceased confronted the accused, he started threatening him. The woman stated that following mental stress, her husband ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan on June 27 .
Sub-inspector Janak Raj, who is investigating the case, said that an FIR under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused at division number seven police station. A hunt is on for his arrest.
