After an extensive study, the IIAS, one of India’s premier centres of advanced research in the humanities, social sciences and literature, has prepared a coffee-table book titled “Vande Mataram: A Journey”. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan will launch the book on July 10, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’.

The book provides a detailed account of the composition of “Vande Mataram”, its significance, its role in the freedom struggle, and the controversies that arose over time. It further includes a research-based narrative covering everything from the initial objections raised against the song at the 1923 Kakinada session of the Congress to the process of omitting four of its stanzas in 1937.

Alongside the launch ceremony, an exhibition featuring 20 rare images depicting the historical journey of the national song will be organised.

According to sources, the book also notes that two distinct ideological streams of leadership emerged during the Indian national movement. While one stream remained rooted in Indian cultural traditions and embraced modern ideas, the other was more heavily influenced by western ideas.
