Days after a dairy operator, Jeevan, was allegedly killed in Hisar, family members and representatives of Punia and Kundu khaps on Saturday blocked a major road in the town protesting against the police for their alleged failure to arrest the accused.
The protestors later also announced a permanent sit-in at the mini-secretariat.
Earlier, the Khaps had given a 48-hour ultimatum to SP Siddhant Jain to arrest the accused behind the murder. After the deadline expired, they arrived to meet the SP on Saturday.
The Punia khap president Shamsher Singh said they waited for three to four hours and were later informed that the SP was not in the city and was on leave.
“But when we began the road blockade, the SP reached the spot within three minutes. Even then, the administration failed to provide a satisfactory response to the victim’s family and that the family had faced threats,” he said.
He said that the family and khap representatives have now decided to stage a continuous dharna at the mini-secretariat until justice is delivered.
They have stated that Jeevan’s last rites will not be performed until the accused are arrested.

{{/usCountry}}Jeevan, a dairy operator and a resident of Surya Nagar, was attacked during the wee hours of Tuesday, while riding a motorcycle with a trolley to dispose of cow dung.
At the time, at least 12 men allegedly started beating him with sticks and rods until he was unconscious. He was taken to hospital, but died during treatment.
The dispute is believed to have originated last month over the dumping of cow dung near the railway line.
