A railway loco pilot was allegedly robbed by five unidentified men who intercepted him while he was returning home after completing his night duty near Bharat Nagar Chowk. The accused, travelling on two motorcycles, allegedly threatened him with weapons and fled with his bag containing cash, personal documents and several railway items.

The incident took place near a hotel close to Bharat Nagar Chowk at around 2.30 am on July 24, but the Division number 5 police registered a case nearly a month later. No arrests have been made so far.

According to the complaint filed by Vijay Singh Yadav, 51, after completing his duty at the railway station on the intervening night of July 23 and 24, he was walking towards his home when five unidentified men riding two motorcycles allegedly surrounded him near a hotel close to Bharat Nagar Chowk. The suspects were carrying weapons and allegedly threatened him before forcibly snatching his bag and fleeing the spot.

The bag contained a mobile phone, cash, Aadhaar card, PAN card and railway identity card. It also contained official railway equipment and documents, including a walkie-talkie set, torch, red and green flags, induction book, competency book, working timetable, travel-suiting book and driver memo book, besides clothes.

Regarding the delay, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Karnail Singh said the action was taken only after a thorough investigation. A case under Sections 304(2) (snatching) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against unidentified accused.

The ASI added that the police were examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects.
