Two days after the explosion at an illegal firecracker unit in Jodhan village that killed a 19-year-old man and injured a minor girl, Ludhiana Rural Police have arrested the supplier of potash used in the manufacturing of firecrackers as well as the landlord who had rented out the premises without mandatory police verification.

SSP Ankur Gupta said Krishan is already facing trial in a similar case involving possession of potash and other chemicals. (HT Photo)

The supplier has been identified as Krishan, a resident of Dirba in Sangrur, while the landlord has been identified as Mahinder Kaur of Aasi Kalan Road.

Police said Krishan had supplied potash to the main accused brothers, Said and Wajid, under an arrangement in which the finished firecrackers were to be supplied back to him.

On Thursday, the army along with Ludhiana Rural Police disposed of potash, chemicals and firecrackers recovered from the illegal unit in Jodhan and a godown on Hambran Road. The disposal was carried out after cordoning off the area and restricting public movement.

Ludhiana Rural SSP Ankur Gupta said Krishan is already facing trial in a similar case involving possession of potash and other chemicals. He added that the seized material included potash and other chemical substances used in firecracker manufacturing. The SSP said a special drive will be launched across the district to crack down on illegal firecracker units
