The toddler’s mother, Sonam Kumar, 20, of Sherewal, Jagraon, told the police that the family was going to her in-laws’ house when the tragedy struck.

She said that her husband Tajinderpal Singh was driving while she was riding pillion, with the toddler in her lap. When they reached near Preet Nursing Home in Sidhwan Bet, a scooter ahead of them suddenly changed the lane without signalling. Due to this, their motorcycle crashed into the scooter and all three of them fell on the road and lost consciousness. Sonam said when she gathered consciousness, she found herself in the hospital.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar, said, “After the mishap, passersby had informed the police and the victims were rushed to the hospital. The scooterist, meanwhile, managed to flee. The toddler had suffered severe head injuries due to the fall. He died during treatment at the hospital. The toddler’s father continues to be in a critical state.”
