A man allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a woman near Shivjot Enclave in Kharar on Friday evening and was later caught and beaten by locals, who then handed him over to the police.

According to the police, complainant Anupma, who works as a government teacher, and a resident of Kharar was returning home from duty when the incident took place around 4pm. As she took out her Samsung mobile phone to make a call, the accused approached from behind, snatched the phone and tried to flee.
On hearing her alarm, people in the area chased the accused, caught him at a short distance away and beaten him.. During questioning, he identified himself as Ranjan Kumar. The complainant’s phone was recovered from him, and an iPhone was also found in his possession, which he admitted to having snatched earlier.
The accused was later handed over to Kharar police station, where a case was registered under Section 304(2) (snatching) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
