Mansa jail deputy superintendent, wife held for duping government job aspirants

Three police uniforms, two forged joining letters, Punjab police recruitment forms, and ₹1 lakh was recovered from them

The deputy superintendent of Mansa Jail, along with his wife, landed in the police net for allegedly duping people after offering them help to secure jobs in police and other government departments.

Police said the accused’s wife would pose as a magistrate while targeting the victims. Three police uniforms, two forged joining letters, Punjab police recruitment forms, and ₹1 lakh was recovered from them. A Toyota Fortuner SUV has also been impounded,

The arrested accused have been identified as Narpinder Singh, 35, and his wife Deep Kiran, 35, of Sector 39, Jamalpur. Their aides, Sukhdev Singh of Sahnewal and Lakhwinder Singh of Mandi Gobindgarh, are still at large.

Sharing details, commissioner of police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said a joint team of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA, Staff 2), Moti Nagar police station nabbed Deep Kiran from Moti Nagar area following a tip-off, while she was travelling in a white Maruti Suzuki Swift Car.

“Sukhdev Singh and Lakhwinder Singh would narrow down targets, usually youths applying for government jobs. They would then take them to Deep Kiran, saying she would help them in securing a job. To win their confidence Deep Kiran would send them to meet Narpinder Singh as well,” the police chief said.

“The accused used to take ₹5 to ₹8 lakh from the aspirants on the pretext of a security job of constable and sub-inspector and issue fake appointment letters. A total of four complainants had approached the police so far,” he added.

Inspector Beant Juneja, in-charge at CIA staff, said Deep Kiran was earlier a member of Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT) and frequented the Ludhiana Central Jail, where Narpinder was deputed as deputy superintendent.

The duo left their spouses and got married a year and a half ago. A hunt is on for the arrest of the remaining accused.
