The proverb that “a cobbler’s children go barefoot” aptly describes the state of the road outside the Municipal Corporation’s Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar. While the civic body is carrying out road construction and repairs across the city, the road outside its office remains riddled with potholes for months.
The entire stretch of the road right from the railway underbridge (RUB) on Pakhowal Road to Ferozepur road is full of potholes and uneven patches protruding above the asphalt surface. The road was to be built under the smart city project with proper footpaths and street lights. However, it was never built but only patched on different occasions.
“This was to be built under the Smart City project along with the RUBs on Pakhowal Road. The RUBs did come up but the road was never built even years after the project was completed,” said Rahul Verma, member, Punjab State Road Safety Council.
A municipal corporation official, seeking anonymity, said the section of the road in front of the MC’s Zone D office till the RUB is under a builder in accordance with the Smart City project.
There are two schools on the road which sees heavy traffic in the morning and afternoon. It is the shortest route for commuters travelling from Pakhowal Road towards Ferozepur Road.

{{/usCountry}}MC superintending engineer (building and road cell) Sham Lal Gupta said, “The plan to repair the road was deferred due to the rainy season. Now, we have asked the contractor to start the work soon once the ongoing spell of rain ends.”
He said the work was likely to be done within a month.
