Raring to take reins of their constituencies, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA-elects, who have yet to be administered the oath, were seen inspecting problem areas across the city on Saturday.
Just two days after receiving the people’s mandate, Ludhiana North MLA-elect Madan Lal Bagga was seen inspecting Buddha Nullah, a polluted seasonal rivulet that passes through the district, and has been the bane of the residents for decades; Atam Nagar MLA-elect Kulwant Singh Sidhu attempted to tackle traffic congestion in the city by opening a road, which had been “unnecessarily” closed in Dugri area, and Ludhiana South MLA-elect Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina inspected the construction work underway at Kanganwal Road.
The inspections come a day after soon-to-be Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann met the newly elected MLAs at Chandigarh and urged them to visit their respective constituencies regularly and proactively resolve the issues being faced by residents.
During his field inspection of the problematic nullah, Bagga also directed municipal corporation and Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) officials to collect samples from common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) established to treat dyeing industry waste at Bahadurke Road, so that untreated waste was not dumped into the waterbody.
“Our priority is to make Buddha Nullah pollution-free. We will also inspect the ongoing ₹650 crore project to clean the nullah. Officials have been given a wake-up call, and have been asked resolve the issues plaguing the residents,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Inaugurating a portion of the Dugri Main Road, Sidhu said, “The stretch had been closed for two months when a cemented road was being constructed there, but even after the work was completed, the officials did not open the road for public use, which was causing losses to shopkeepers.”
“While campaigning, I had promised the shopkeepers that the road will be opened as soon as I am voted to power, which has been done. The leftover sand on the road will be removed in the coming days,” he said.
Similarly, Chhina directed the officials to keep a check on the quality of developmental works.
